Volunteer Opportunities for Soar Sound Autumn 2025

Soar Sound is inviting volunteers to take part in two major Leicester events this autumn. On 13 September 2025, the Information and Advice Festival at Jubilee Square will showcase services for health, activity, and community support, with Soar Sound broadcasting live stories and interviews. On 11 October 2025, the Saturday Heritage Fair at Leicester Adult Education will bring together over 25 local heritage projects, workshops, and talks, where Soar Sound volunteers will interview exhibitors and visitors, create live content, and share updates online. Volunteers can gain hands-on experience in audio recording, editing, photography, and social media, while connecting with people in the community media and heritage sectors. These opportunities highlight Soar Sound’s role as a place-based English language community radio station for the Greater Leicester Urban Area, offering meaningful ways to contribute, learn, and build professional skills in a supportive environment.
Two great opportunities to get involved with Soar Sound
Soar Sound’s strength is built on the energy and dedication of its volunteers. We have two important community events coming up, and we need your support to bring them to life. These are excellent chances to gain experience as a community reporter, connect with others, and help share stories that matter across Leicester.
Event 1: Leicester Information & Advice Festival
Saturday 13 September 2025, Jubilee Square
Hosted by Leicester City Council, this festival will showcase services that help people stay healthy, active and connected. Soar Sound will be broadcasting live, capturing stories from visitors and service providers. It’s a chance to meet the people behind adult care and other community services, and to work alongside fellow volunteers on a busy outside broadcast.
Event 2: Saturday Heritage Fair
Saturday 11 October 2025, Leicester Adult Education, Hansom Hall
Run by our partner John Coster, this event will bring together over 25 local heritage projects, with stalls, workshops, and talks. Soar Sound will run programmes throughout the day, interviewing stallholders, visitors and speakers, and posting content online as part of our live coverage.
What we need from you
We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to the full day, help with set-up and pack-down, and take part in key tasks such as:
- Capturing and editing audio
- Taking photos and sharing updates on social media
- Interviewing guests, exhibitors, and visitors
- Working with the team to deliver professional and engaging content
No previous experience is needed – just a willingness to work professionally, follow briefings, and take responsibility for the tasks you are comfortable with.
What’s in it for you?
- Experience in live broadcasting and community reporting
- Opportunities to meet people in the community media and heritage sectors
- A supportive environment to learn interviewing, editing and presenting skills
- The chance to make new connections and friends through shared activity
The content we gather will also be edited and shared afterwards as podcasts on the Soar Sound website.
