Volunteers Conduct
At Soar Sound, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, bringing creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to our community radio station. To ensure that our station remains a welcoming and inclusive space, it is important that all volunteers understand their responsibilities and adhere to a respectful code of conduct.
Working Together Respectfully
We encourage all volunteers to work in a cordial and supportive manner. This means treating fellow volunteers with respect, offering help when needed, and fostering an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual appreciation. Everyone at Soar Sound plays a role in making the station a positive and productive environment.
Key expectations include:
- Being courteous and professional in all interactions.
- Supporting fellow volunteers and working as part of a team.
- Encouraging open, constructive communication.
- Respecting diversity and welcoming different perspectives.
Handling Disagreements
Occasionally, differences of opinion may arise. If a disagreement occurs, we encourage volunteers to address concerns calmly and directly with the person involved, where possible. If a resolution cannot be reached, the following steps should be taken:
- Informal discussion – Speak privately and respectfully with the individual to seek a resolution.
- Seek mediation – If needed, involve a station director or committee member to mediate the discussion.
- Use the grievance process – If the issue remains unresolved, formal procedures can be followed as outlined in our Grievance Policy.
Taking Responsibility for Your Conduct
Volunteers are expected to take personal responsibility for their behaviour and contributions at Soar Sound. This includes:
- Following the station’s policies and guidelines.
- Being accountable for personal actions and their impact on others.
- Accepting feedback in the spirit of growth and improvement.
- Addressing any issues constructively rather than through negative or disruptive behaviour.
When Issues Cannot Be Resolved
In the rare cases where behaviour breaks down, or an irreconcilable difference of opinion disrupts station operations, Soar Sound’s directors and committee have several options:
- Verbal or written warnings may be issued if behaviour does not align with the station’s values.
- Mediation or retraining may be recommended to help resolve conflicts.
- Temporary suspension may be considered if the issue is ongoing and significantly impacts the station.
- Removal from volunteer duties may be necessary in cases of serious misconduct, repeated breaches of conduct, or where no resolution is possible.
At Soar Sound, we value every volunteer and are committed to fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. By working together with mutual respect and shared responsibility, we can ensure that our station remains a supportive and creative space for all.
